Dr Catherine Cumming

Western Metropolitan Legislative Council Independent
Catherine Cumming

Meet Catherine

Before entering Parliament, Catherine owned and ran several cafes and Chinese medicine clinics. She was also a Councillor in Maribyrnong for 21 years, serving two terms as mayor. A member of the Army Reserve for 10 years, Catherine worked as a medic and preventative medicine technician.

Born in Williamstown and raised in Footscray, Catherine questioned why the west had poorer infrastructure and public amenities than the eastern suburbs. This is what prompted her to run for Parliament.

The priorities Catherine has for her community are to listen to what people want and give her community the opportunity to be part of change. She is also passionate about advocating for improved infrastructure in the west.

Catherine's vision for Victoria’s future is for it to be a state which genuinely consults with the community when making decisions. She also wants Victoria to be a better place for our children and our elderly.

The areas of public policy that she is most passionate about are health and community safety, community infrastructure, job security, waste and recycling, local transport, affordable housing, youth and education, small business, and air quality.
