Ms Kaushaliya Vaghela

Western Metropolitan Legislative Council Independent
Kaushaliya Vaghela

Meet Kaushaliya

Before entering Parliament, Kaushaliya worked as a risk and compliance manager and advisor to the former Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Minister for Finance. She previously worked as a medical scientist and anti-cancer researcher.

Kaushaliya has worked closely with diverse communities through roles in the South Asian Public Affairs Council and Sub-Continent Friends of Labor. Advocating for independent mediation between the traders of Little India in Dandenong and the government, Kaushaliya realised that she could become a voice for the Victorian Indian community. This is what prompted her to run for Parliament.

The priorities Kaushaliya has for her community are education, road and rail infrastructure, hospitals and health care centres, investment in projects that support local employment, supporting our cultural diversity, and empowering women.

Kaushaliya's vision for Victoria’s future is as the cultural and innovation capital of Australia. She wants to see more people from culturally diverse backgrounds in key decision-making roles, particularly women.

The areas of public policy she is most passionate about include equality, women’s empowerment, multiculturalism, infrastructure, health and wellbeing, education, science and innovation, and strategic international bilateral relationships.
