Before entering Parliament, Rod worked for the taxi and hire car industry for more than 30 years. In 1999 he started a successful hire car business in Melbourne.
Rod says that the deregulation of the taxi and hire car industry in 2017 led to his business becoming financially unviable and the loss of his family property. This is what prompted him to run for Parliament.
The priorities Rod has for his community are to achieve equality and fairness through a focus on community consultation on key issues such as homelessness, worker’s rights and transportation.
Rod’s vision for Victoria’s future is that is a community where everyone is listened to and supported. Rod believes that a combination of bureaucracy and political games has left many without access to safe and affordable housing, basic workers’ rights or business support.
The areas of public policy that he is most passionate about are transport issues, particularly the regulation of the commercial passenger vehicle sector and accessibility of public transport services. He also cares deeply about ending homelessness and providing all Victorians with safe and affordable housing.
