Mr Cesar Melhem

Cesar Melhem

Meet Cesar

Before entering Parliament, Cesar was State Secretary of the Australian Workers’ Union. As a newly arrived immigrant from Lebanon, he began working in the manufacturing industry in 1988. Working up from the shop floor to delegate and then a union organiser he was elected to the State Secretary role in 2006. Cesar was also a board member of the construction industry superannuation fund CBUS.

During his time as a union official, Cesar saw first-hand the importance of the labour movement in standing up for the rights of working Victorians. This is what prompted him to run for Parliament.

The priorities Cesar has for his community are building the necessary infrastructure in areas of health, education and transport. He also wants to ensure growing communities in the west continue to thrive.

Cesar’s vision for Victoria’s future is that all Victorians have access to secure and meaningful employment, high-quality education and training throughout their life, a world-class health care and services system, an efficient public transport and road network, emission reductions for the environment, and decent living standards for all.

The areas of public policy that he is most passionate about are vocational education and training, worker safety and pursuing zero landfill.
