Getting to know you

19 December 2022

New Members of Parliament have attended an orientation at Parliament House ahead of the official opening of Victoria’s 60th Parliament.

A total of 43 MPs newly elected at the November 26 election participated.

Senior parliamentary staff briefed the new MPs on key procedures and logistics associated with being a parliamentarian, to enable members to get straight to work representing their electorates and regions once they are sworn in.

The swearing-in of all MPs will take place on Tuesday 20 December at the official opening of Victoria’s 60th Parliament, which will be broadcast live on our website from 10 am.

One of the first parliamentary duties of a new MP is to make an inaugural speech, and those speeches will be delivered from tomorrow, and over several sitting weeks in the new year.
