To connect with young people throughout Victoria, our State of the Future project involves a range of initiatives with many more to come.

It commenced with consultations undertaken with young Victorians across our state, conducted in collaboration with YLab at the Foundation for Young Australians.

Recent activities have included a youth forum held at Parliament House and a youth-led video series about leadership.

The State of the Future youth forum was held at Parliament House on 10 May 2023.

It involved 60 young people from across Victoria, who discussed a range of issues that matter to them as well as ways for parliament and MPs to best connect with them.

The forum included a Q&A panel with Minister for Youth Natalie Suleyman, Shadow Minister for Youth Sam Groth and Greens Spokesperson for Youth Aiv Puglielli.

Forum participants presented 38 recommendations to parliament during a report back session attended by more than 20 MPs and representatives from a range of youth organisations.

A group of young Victorians shared their thoughts on leadership for the State of the Future video project.

They talked about their own leadership experiences and their expectations of leadership.

The videos were produced by parliament’s youth associate Darcy Scales leading up to the 2022 Victorian election.
