Mr John Kennedy

John Kennedy

Meet John

Before entering Parliament, John was a self-funded retiree with a small consulting business. Before that, he was the foundation principal of Loyola College for almost 30 years. John also worked part-time as an RAAF Officer, Dean of Studies at St Mary’s College, volunteer CEO of Caroline Chisholm Society and reader with 3RPH (Vision Australia).

John was the President of the Kooyong Federal Electorate Assembly, and believed that Labor should have a candidate in every electorate, even when prospects appeared slim. This is what prompted him to run for Parliament.

The main priorities John has for his community are to be someone his constituents can engage with openly without fear or favour, seeking a world that is fair, productive and compassionate.

John's vision for Victoria’s future is that it is a community that intelligently, unselfishly and genuinely seeks the general good. He would like to see a balanced formal and informal education system that emphasises the notion of being for others in ‘deed’, not just ‘word’.

The areas of public policy that he is most passionate about are housing, education, employment, health, mental health, retirement provisions, gender equality and protection of the ABC.
