Legislative Council to sit in Echuca

6 September 2023

Victoria’s Legislative Council will sit in the regional city of Echuca on Thursday April 18, 2024.

President of the Legislative Council Shaun Leane said the sitting would provide the Upper House a great opportunity to connect with the people of Northern Victoria.

'We know the region was hard hit by floods in 2022, and this will give MPs from across the state a chance to engage with those communities as they continue their recovery,' he said.

The sitting will be held at the Echuca Library and streamed live on the Parliament’s website.

As well as the sitting, community members will be given the opportunity to participate in a range of other activities across the course of the week.

'It will be an important occasion for members to show that the Legislative Council is here for all Victorians,' Mr Leane said.

The Legislative Council has previously held regional sittings in Bright in 2021, Bendigo in 2012, Lakes Entrance in 2008, Colac in 2005, Benalla in 2002 and Ballarat in 2001.
