Remembering the victims of domestic and family violence

3 May 2023

Parliament House was lit up in purple on the evening of 3 May to remember and honour the many killed by domestic and family violence.

The solemn tribute took place on National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day, held annually on the first Wednesday of May.

On this day, people across Australia held vigils and lit candles to remember those who have suffered as a result of domestic and family violence.

Parliament House was one of several major Melbourne landmarks taking part in the remembrance day.

Members of parliament wore purple ribbons during the parliamentary sitting day as a mark of respect for those who have died through this violence impacting the lives of too many.
