Victorian Heart Hospital

Victorian Heart Hospital

Meng Heang TAK (Clarinda) (13:09): I am very proud and excited the Andrews Labor government has delivered Australia’s first specialist standalone cardiac hospital, with the Victorian Heart Hospital open for patients this Thursday. The new $577 million hospital has been officially opened in Clayton and will deliver life-saving treatment and diagnosis for thousands of Victorians each year. Operated by Monash Health, the new hospital has a capacity of 206 beds and up to 2150 cardiac surgeries, 28,300 emergency presentations and 108,000 consultations and outpatient appointments each year – truly outstanding. The hospital will play an important role in training Australian health professionals, boosting our healthcare workers and the next generation of cardiac specialists. It will also play an important role in research, further cementing Victoria at the forefront of medical research. But most importantly, it will change lives and save lives.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia, with recent statistics showing that one Australian dies every 12 minutes from cardiovascular disease. By building Australia’s first dedicated heart hospital the Labor government is taking an important step toward ensuring better health outcomes for all. Along with major upgrades to the Monash Medical Centre, we are delivering world-class health care for families in the south-east and across Victoria.
